Hi all,
well i gues the subject line says it all. When i save or download files, whether its files i've created, such as my stories, or mp3 books i've downloaded from librivox or whatever, i want windows to show them in proper order, for instance 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc, but it just scatters thefiles and puts them in a random order, like the doctor dolittle book for instance starts with chapter 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 13, 16,, 1 2 3, etc. I asked on the fvipconduit site what to do, ande i followed the instructions, but actuallly it was already set to show files by name, so i still can't make windows show files in the right order, any ideas? thanks,

Place a 0 before the single digit files: 01 instead of 1, 09 instead of 9. If you have tripple digit numbers, you needn't place 2 0's before the double or single digit numbers; long as you have 0's before the single numbers, windows will sort it properly.
i assume i have to do this when i first create or download th efiles? I tried correcting the problem with th edoctor dolittle book, but it didn't change th eorder. I've downloaded 2 chapters of black beauty and put the 0 before the 1 and 2, and so far it put them in the right order, but i can't correct th esituation with files i've already saved.

Good evening. First, you should be able to rename the files you saved and put the zeros at the beginning. Also, I would suggest that you set the view for list by going to the view menu and pressing l for list. Also, in the view menu arrow down to arrange icons submenu, press the right arrow to open the sugmenu and be sure that name is checked by pressing enter on it. Then press f5 to refresh the folder and thinkgs should show up in alfabethcal order.
hi willie,
it was already set to name, i mean name was already xchecked, and i did set it to list in the view menu, i tried setting it to type, just experimenting with it a bit, and nothing changed, but i did rename the doctor dolittle files by putting a 0 before the single digits.
thanks,

You can rename any file in Windows by pressing f2 when you are on that file, then press the "home" key to go to the beginning of the file name, type in the 0 and press enter, the file should be renamed, then press f5 to see how it affects the order of the files. You must remember to press homeor arrow or something before you press a letter in the "change name" dialog box becuase else you remove the file name. Pressing escape at any point instead of enter will leave the file name, as-is.
cheers
